Hotel Haven

Recently, a stranger asked me what I like to do for fun. The “right” answer might’ve been going to the beach or drinking on patios. I chose neither.

Well, I said. I really love sitting in fancy hotels.

Chicago is full of such places: The Peninsula, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton are among my favorite spots. I have so many memories tucked away in these luxury hotels, like Christmas dinners at the Four Seasons and vacations at the Ritz. Sometimes, when I’m stressed out at work, I’ll leave my office and walk around the corner to the Peninsula — my safe house.

On Saturday, I had showings at 110 E. Delaware, which happens to be down the street from the Four Seasons. When the last client left, I knew where I was going next.

(Oh, and for the record: Forty Carrots has the city’s best fro-yo. It’s on the sixth floor of Bloomingdale’s.)
