When a potential client invites me over to see their home, I never know what to expect. Abbie called me a few weeks ago about her Old Town condo. I looked up photos from the previous listing and found moldy green carpeting, rainbow kitchen tiles and a yellow (yes, yellow) bathroom. Hm, I thought to myself. I wonder if she renovated.
To my delight, she did. I stepped inside her home for the first time and immediately sighed a breath of relief. Everything had been updated: kitchen, bath, floors, trim, closets, appliances, hinges, baseboards, doors, lighting, paint, grout. I could go on. Abbie passionately put over $40,000 into her home, and the finished product is absolutely stunning.
I went from room to room, ooh’ing and ahh’ing over it all. Originally an enclosed room, the kitchen is now white, open and so inviting. There is an island with room for two stools, as well as a dining table for additional seating. For drinks, there is a bar area with glamorous glass shelving and a stacked wine fridge.
The living room is comfortable and bright. That faded green carpeting was gone, only to be replaced by gorgeous dark chocolate-colored floors throughout the entire space. Light pours in from the southern and eastern windows (it’s a corner unit!) and there is a door leading out to the balcony. Oh, I love this balcony. It is a few floors up from the sidewalk, allowing for tree-top views and Old Town people-watching. From the outdoor couch, I could see Chicago’s downtown high-rises and sun peeking through the clouds.
Back inside, I went to check out the bathroom. Just like the kitchen, it had been gutted to the studs, remodeled with the perfect mix of marble and subway tile. So many elements of the home flowed together. The same subway tile appeared in the kitchen and bar, too — I adore the clean look of it, a tried and true design staple.
I peeked in the spacious bedroom and open a few closets, and I had nothing but compliments. Abbie’s space is just beautiful, and her feminine decor sold me even further. It is the sort of home I would want to buy if I didn’t already live just a few blocks away.
Lastly, I’d be remiss if I did not write about the location. This home is a short walk away from some of my favorite places, like Happy Camper, Plum Market (they sell every flavor of Halo Top!), Small Cheval and the lakefront.
Today, I’m listing this home for sale at $249,900. Please contact me for a private showing.
