I am always nervous before my first round of showings with a new set of clients. It doesn’t matter if I’ve known the buyers forever, or if I just met them recently — I get butterflies every time.
Darnell and Sarah had attended one of my monthly SYWTBAC seminars, and they reached out to begin their home search last fall. I remember sitting in my car outside a downtown high-rise, talking on the phone with Andrew to keep my anxiousness at bay. I saw Darnell and Sarah climb out of an Uber, and so I said goodbye to Andrew and went to greet them.
From that initial showing on, I was at ease. Darnell and Sarah (two former New Yorkers!) had this effortlessly calm, cool way about them that made me feel like I could be completely myself. They were recently engaged (I was engaged), they were shopping around the Gold Coast (I used to live in the Gold Coast), and they were fun (I’m nowhere near as fun as they are, but I appreciated their taste in restaurants).
The pair eventually went under contract on a perfect condo on one of the best blocks in the Gold Coast — it just so happened to be in my old building, which I still love and miss dearly. They closed at the end of the year, and I’ll bet they celebrated with many glasses of champagne.
Last weekend, I stopped by for a quick visit. Darnell and Sarah gave me giant hugs at the door, and then showed me around. They installed stunning grey floors, decorated like professionals, and hung a crown jewel of a chandelier (from Restoration Hardware, which just so happens to be across the street from their place!) in the living room. Needless to say, I was in love.
Congratulations to a truly amazing and hardworking couple. Next up: the wedding!
